So, Tustumena lake. As usual pictures don't do it justice. It was amazing last night. The sun settingahead of us as I ran just ahead of a storm, rain splashing on the windshield.  A giant fire.  Curry.  Whiskey.  Strange conversation with interns.  I don't know if it is because I am not myself but this summer just doesn't seem the same.  And it is half over!  Nonetheless, an amazing night.

So, I have made a hard decision.  I am selling my boat and taking a huge, huge loss.  I have arranged to keep it until August 6, when G leaves and J and the kids come home from England.  There are a lot of reasons.  She has caused me a lot of problems.  Between payments, expenses and repairs I bet she costs me $350 a month.  And although she is running great now, it is just a matter of time until she requires thousands more.  Besides, it is one less thing to own.  I am having a hard time right now.  Today is the first day of summer.  For me, it is a hard day because the days get shorter now.  8 more months of winter is coming.  I wouldn't mind that so much if I had money to get out of here for a bit of it.  If I had the money to fix all the things that break in the winter.  But I don't.  I don't know.  I don't know how much longer I can be a public defender either.  This job is hopeless.  It seems to me that drugs are coming in hard to the Kenai Peninsula.  It seems a…

So, this weekend we killed our chickens and headed out to Kenai Lake to camp.  The trip didn't start smoothly.  The place I wanted to go was PACKED.  We took a dog for the first time and she thanked us by puking all over the truck.  It was supposed to be a gorgeous day but it started to rain.  But we got there and everyone had a good time.  The girls got to go canoeing.  It rained on and off but it wasn't too bad.  Solstice is next week and I always find that sad.  It will start to get darker now.  Summer is already half over.  J has decided to take the girls to England this summer while I am off for two weeks.  That should be a good time.

So the best I can say is that I am learning some things. I don't know if it is me or what but things just don't seem the same. Normally I rely on a busy summer to charge my batteries for 8 months of winter. But this year that doesn't seem to be happening. Yes, I have had the chance to get out. Normally the interns spend a large part of the summer with me and that doesn't seem to be happening this year. But I've learned a few things so far this summer. Like my boat has a 'reset' button for the electrical system. We went out to Kenai lake yesterday and I could NOT get my boat started. It was just dead. So we used the kicker. A nice, slow trip. When we were just about back I remembered the button. Vroom.  On both trips so far there have been problems with it..nothing major but enough to make me curse.  I have been reminded how deadly Tustumena Lake can be. Those of you who read this blog know that is probably my favorite place on Earth. I was o…
