So, my crazy busy life continues.  I am trying to do it all at once and discovering new problems along the way.  But you know what?  Stuff's getting better.  Stuff's getting better every day.  I was just thinking how THIS year I had less stuff that broke in April.  Yes, there was some.  I got my boat back yesterday after two months in the shop.  The new motor (knock on wood here) seems to kick ass.  I am lining the engine compartment with a lead lining to deaden some of the noise and am excited by the whole thing.  Think it is time to go to Tustumena Lake for Memorial Day.  Test this sum bitch out.  As for the rest of my life, the house remodeling is 3/4 done.  Half the garden is in.  The greenhouse is up and filling.  The chickens and hogs are growing.  Almost two years of firewood has been cut, split and stacked (now THAT has been a lot of work).  I have fixed some electrical issues.  Sigh.  Along the way I discovered that frost heave took out the power to the butcher shop. …

So, the first ever all Adams camping trip.  I got the girls on some unnamed little lake out in the Kenai Wildlife Refuge.  We only stayed one overnight but it was a good start (and it was damned cold last night anyways).  We went canoeing and ate smores and enjoyed a fire.  Kadee was excited to do a little fishing and everyone had a great time.  I hope that this camping trip is the first of many.  I bought a new "instant" tent that is worth the money, let me tell you.  It has the poles attached so you just push it up.  Slick.  I bought the girls one of those giant sleeping bags and they really seemed to enjoy themselves  We camped in a beautiful little grove of birch trees that are showing the first sign of green.
Very exciting for an Alaskan let me tell you.  The boat is ready and is being tested tomorrow.  The interns should all be here soon and we'll see how this crop turns out.  Should be a good summer.

So, of all the places I have seen in Alaska, Prince William sound is the most beautiful so far. I went fishing and black bear hunting for three days out of Whittier. We caught shrimp as long as my hand.
I caught my first yellow eye.  I didn't get to shoot a black bear but I did get to stalk one.  Just the stalk was amazing.  I was lowered off the boat and rowed to shore.  I crept along the beach edge.  The bear caught sight or sound of us and left but it was an amazing experience just to hunt it.  I saw porpoises, humpback whales, otters with their babies, bioluminescence, bald eagles and black bears.  We caught rockfish and halibut.  I hung out with a few new folks, drank a bunch of beer and Crown Royal on glacier ice and just enjoyed life.  I remember thinking how short life is.  When I got back into cell phone range I had a message.  My best friend Jeremy's brother Darren died yesterday.  He wasn't much older than me and kids around the age of mine.  He was doing someth…

So, I'm crazy busy. Yes, yes I know I keep saying it but it is true.  I have now renovated 2/3 of the house, basically from the subfloor up.  The biggest rooms still need to be done.  What makes me so busy is that I am preparing for two completely different options in my life.  They are as different as night and day.  Besides remodeling, I got our new hogs, over 50 chickens and turkeys and have started seeds for the garden.  I have started to to plant potatoes, cut, split and stack next years's wood as well as work full time, be a dad to three, a husband to one, work 3-4 hours a day with home renovations, finish a screenplay, housesit for a neighbor and prepare for my future.  I am going to continue to be cagey about what that means, because I'm not sure if I will ever make this blog public again.  I know there are only a handful of you reading it but to be honest I like that.  If the major changes that I expect actually materialize, I will make it public long enough to t…
