So, get this. I am leaving for DC in just a little while. I just got a call from Senator Murkowski's office. I got a ticket to the inauguration! It is like winning the lotto. Instead of being in the general crowd of 2 million people, I get to be up front. I don't know how close I will be yet but the instructions sent said to turn off my cell phone during the swearing in! Wow. Unfortunately, the weather here is lousy (just like the last time I tried to get to DC). And like last time I have to spend extra money to fly to Anchorage because the roads are so bad. The city of Anchorage was basically closed today. It went from -35 to +36 and rainy. Everything is covered with ice and 105 MPH winds are predicted around Turnagain Arm. So there goes extra money. But it is a one in a life time chance, especially since I have a ticket! I will try and get a picture of me in my Public Defender sweatshirt with the proceedings in the background. Stay tuned!

dude - for a guy who regularly whines about how little money he has - flying to DC to watch this historic event seems out of place. You are losing me here. Am I missing something?

Dude, that's awesome - you do realize you could sell that for a few thousand dollars and cover your whole trip right. I mean I'm just saying . . . see you in a few hours, prepare for a 'bruising' good time!

I think you got Sarah's ticket. Heard she and Lisa are on the outs. Or you are one of the many Obama girls that got free passes backstage. Yeah, Im jealous.
Anon: you are right. BUT I owe Jesse $500 for the flight and I am staying with Josh for free. I AM broke, but you only live once. Can you imagine saying I could have gone BUT FOR $1000? No. Am in DC sitting with Josh. Awesome!

I hear ya - I can't say I never made similar financial decissions and in the long run you won't regret it. But you might next month. I am currently out of money as well - yet planning on purchasing a big bore riffle for upcoming hunt - which I also can't afford. Oh well - life is short. But when we make these crazy decissions we should not whine about the money we make working for the state.
Huh. I guess I am the only public defender who would like to make more but is also determined to see life. The funny thing about this is that I caught far more grief from you assholes who chose to remain anonymous than the wife! If you feel you need to make a comment, why not be man enough to ID yourself? Come on now. In other words, fuck off.

A little luck...yes.
I've seen your friend Gabe's blog and have posted a comment, however, it looks as though he doesn't visit that site anymore (North to Alaska). I would like to ask him to visit this website "JusticeforBilly.com". My friend's son was the victim of a gross miscarriage of justice in Placer County. This website explains why. Thank you if you can get this message to him.

Dear World,

The United States of America, your quality supplier of ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for its 2001-2008 service outage. The technical fault that led to this eight-year service interruption has been located, and the parts responsible for it were replaced Tuesday night, November 4th.

Early tests of the newly-installed equipment indicate that it is functioning correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional by January 20th. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage, and we look forward to resuming full service --- and hopefully even to improving it in the years to come.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

*The USA*
