So, it has been a while. The computer went down with a virus. $189 later and I am pissed. There is really no choice, as both J and I need the computer to stay sane in the winter months. But who the hell get their kicks out of creating programs that do nothing but cause others misery? Winter is here with full force, despite the fact that it is only October. When I went to work this morning, it was 1 degree. 1. Winter seems to be causing problems this year. I learned that a good friend, G., is moving back to California in November. Oh, he claims it is for a woman, but I think the idea of another winter in Fairbanks scares him. G. I would not be in Alaska but for his relentless prodding. Now he is leaving me. Bastard. To make matters worse, it appears that Alaska Madman is also leaving. I guess winter is too hard on his family. Well that sucks. I went to my third Public Defender Conference last week. I left feeling depressed. Last year I recognized maybe 80% of the faces. This year I onl…

So, Washington DC! I can't say I saw a lot of the city but I did get to the United States Supreme Court. It was fun to push on the door. I wonder how many hands seeking justice it took to wear the doors like they are. I wonder how many of those people actually got it? I was quite impressed with DC. It was much cleaner than I thought it would be. Especially the Metro. It was great to see Josh and meet all his friends. I would definitely like to go back some time. I may wait til the girls are older and take everyone. It was a great trip and I learned a lot. It was weird to be in a big city that was nice and warm one day and back in Alaska with the snow the next. On the way back I had to fly through LA. The place is on fire. Of course I always hated California, so no loss there.

So, we got our first snow today. Bad timing as I am off to Washington DC in a few hours. I had to fork out the money to fly from Kenai to Anchorage as there was 80MPH winds and bad roads. But I have to go. I just have to see where so much evil congregates. Quite the change from riding the Rhino in the snow to seeing the big city of DC. This time in Alaska is magical. After going like stink all summer, the first snow is welcome. The way it smells. The way it feels. The way the world turns blue. It made me think of one of my clearest childhood memories. I was probably 5 or 6. I was with my older brother. We were cutting firewood way off in the woods somewhere. I remember he pointed out a wolf track to me. I remember the smell of the chainsaw. The way the world turned blue as it got dark. And I was glad that my children will be raised in Alaska. Even though this world is changing. Too many people. Too much "progress". I have just been fuming the last few days. Am I really the l…

So, really Governor? Really? You could not name even one other Supreme Court decision that you disagreed with? Is abortion really the biggest problem in this country? Not surprising that yet another millionaire has no f%^$^&g clue about what real people in this country are going through. If I hear another millionaire politician talk about "average Joe" I am going to puke. How about Exxon Shipping v. Baker? The case where the United States Supreme Court let an oil company get away with murder and tens of thousands of Alaskans were screwed. I mean the decision was just handed down in June. June 2008. You called this a "sad chapter in our history". See http://www.gov.state.ak.us/archive.php?id=1253&type=1 I can understand that you are not a constitutional scholar or even a lawyer. But wow. I was only a teenager but I will never forget what I saw. The animals coated in oil. The destruction of a pristine wilderness. And Exxon bought off the Supreme Court while y…
