So, we went halibut fishing today. There were pro's and con's. Pros: the boat ran like a champ. A champ. We even got the radio working! We were flying across the ocean at 30 MPH. It was a beautiful day. I learned how to launch the boat using the logging skidders at Deep Creek and how to troll for salmon. Everything mechanical went right today. Con's: we caught nothing. Nothing except one salmon that Brian did not land. My first time getting skunked halibut fishing. I learned that location is everything. But a great day drinking beer and hanging out with great guys. The vacation is going well but morale is low as few fish have been caught. Life is good in Alaska. Tomorrow we are going gold panning in Hope and looking for Pink salmon...not the best eating but might boost morale. Nothing like a little fish blood to make a man feel alive.

P.S. Check out this crew:

Thanks for the post and the photos. I envy you (nope, I have no public defender aspirations!) for the access to all that wonderful terrain in Alaska. One day I'll get there. Hope the gold panning works out...if you ever want to learn more about it, please visit my recreational gold mining blog, "Bedrock Dreams," at
