So, here is our new kid. 9 weeks old. Approximately 1 inch long. Already has arms and legs. No wonder I think abortion is wrong. I'm not trying to create a debate here: I realize reasonable

people can disagree on this topic. But for me personally, and only for me, I'm amazed at this little life already. Or maybe I'm just amazed at how much he or she really looks like a little dollar sign already.

Reasonable people can't disagree. Selfish people can disagree. People that think they are more important than others can disagree. People that pretend that a 9 week old fetus is just a lump of skin instead of doing the research. Doing the research would be too dangerous because they would have to challenge their own selfishness. Wake up people. When you get into a bathtub, does your status as a human being change? What if you get into my bathtub, and I don't want you there?

Congrats by the way. We have about 5 boxes of stuff to send you for the new baby boy. Email me your address. Angelic is dying to mail this stuff to you.

Try being a girl who is raped by her father and gets pregnant. Would you carry the baby then, or are there no exceptions to your rule?

Thanks for the heads up on the deal in Kenai that you emailed me about, but now isn't the right time. Congrats on the new baby on the way. BTW, have you seen any aurora borealis since you've been up there? Any pics?

Children are a blessing. Congratulations on your new fetus.

Thousands of abortions are performed every single day. How many times are girls impregnated by their father? I'm guessing not many. And no, that would not be an exception. Is it a terrible terrible burden for the mother to bear. Yes. Would I expect the girl to rear the child? No. If the girl is so young as it would put her life in danger, then yes there is a recognized moral exception called self-defense (but it is not justified because of who the father is). Assuming self-defense is not an issue, if you accept the premise that the fetus is a human being entitled to life, how can you justify killing it because of its father's horrific behavior, or because it will be terribly emotionally difficult for its mother to deal with carrying it for 9 months. Hmmmm, 9 months of difficulty for mom vs. killing a human being. You are not talking about killing for self defense, you're talking about justifying killing to make it easier for mom, over the next nine months, for her to get over being violated.

Thank God it is a free country and women have a choice!!!
People need to think befor they make a human being.
Pro choice all the way!!

Wow anon... that is the worst argument in favor of abortion I've ever heard. Either you are just trying to get a reaction, you are a total retard, or you are in favor of murder. In your last post you recognize the unborn as "human beings" but then say you are glad that woman "have a choice" in getting an abortion. That is equal to saying you are glad that women have a choice in killing innocent human beings.

I'm hoping you are just trying to get a reaction and that you are not a total retard or in favor of murder.

I sure am! Wrap your meat or face the heat!! Think befor you act oh ye baby makers! I am a retard because I think that people that breed are dumb ass's? Oh well, child free by choice man!

Emotional difficulties resulting from unwanted babies extend far beyond the mother's 9 months. Ask the worst criminals in the world if their mothers wanted them. These mothers would have done an unselfish thing by aborting them. And I DON'T accept the premise that a fetus is a human.

Ben:

I am impressed that you were able to express your personal views about abortion, without being offensive. BTW, congratulations Ben, J and Kadee (the new big sister)!

Jeremy:

I am disappointed that you can not. Ben is correct when he says that reasonable minds can differ. Your excuse that it is murder is open to debate. There is no legal reason to say that the fetus is a new life at this point – it is a moral or religious decision. It is difficult for the law to say when it is a life, but religions have no such difficulties. Some people believe that it is a life upon conception; while others believe it is not life until birth. Neither can prove the other wrong; while both believe he or she is right. It seems that the current solution, with an almost absolute right to an abortion during the first trimester and a near absolute ban during the last is a compromise, and nothing more. Because of our laws, and our great country, we are free to disagree, but do not think you can convince people that your view is right by being offense and calling people names. Try using reason and compassion, and you’ll get a great deal further.

And Bill's comments is for all the ladies out there...
Oh, by the way, did Bill mention that he believes we should carpet bomb Iraq? That he agrees with the president when the terrorists should "bring it on"?

So you would think that child abuse rates, and crime, would have gone down in the years since abortion became legal? Think again....the opposite has happened. Once life is begun to be devalued, you have no justification for treating ANY human life with dignity.

Anon, you are a complete ass. That is why I shouldn't have said anything. Perhaps, as I happen to know, FDR is deeply religious person with honest convictions. His debates with me have always been cordial and polite. Your comment left much to be desired. Quite frankly I think you owe FDR an apology!

One in five pregnancies ends in abortion: study

Oct 11 07:05 PM US/Eastern

One in five pregnancies worldwide ends in an abortion, amounting to a significant fall compared with the mid-nineties, but nearly half these terminations still take place in unsafe conditions, a study says.

In 2003, the latest year for which full figures are available, 42 million abortions were carried out around the world, compared with 46 million in 1995, according to the paper published by The Lancet next Saturday.

For every 1,000 women aged between 15 and 44 in 2003, 29 had an abortion, down from 35 in 1997, it said.

"Overall abortion rates are similar in the developing and developed world, but unsafe abortion is concentrated in developing countries," it notes.

"Ensuring the need for contraception is met and that all abortions are safe will reduce maternal mortality substantially and protect maternal health."

Abortion rates were lowest in Western Europe (12 pregnancy terminations per 1,000 women) but highest in Eastern Europe, where the rate was 44 abortions per 1,000 women. In the United States and Europe, it was 21 per 1,000, while in Asia and Africa, the rate was 29 per 1,000.

Forty-eight percent of all abortions worldwide were unsafe, and more than 97 percent of unsafe abortions took place in developing countries.

On the basis of the 2003 data, on average 90 percent of women worldwide will have had an abortion before the age of 45, the study calculates.

This varies, though, between many women who will have had multiple terminations and many who will have had none at all, note the authors, led by Gilda Sedgh of the Guttmacher Institute in New York and Iqbal Shah of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

EVERY abortion is an unsafe one, as the result is a dead baby and an injured mother.
