So, Happy Halloween.

Next time: The ongoing saga of why Hudson v. Michigan is a joke and how it helps the United States to continue to slide into fascism. Where is the "compassionate conservatism" when people are getting their fingers broken? I never thought I would say this but God I hope the Democrats win at least one House next week. It took a "Republican" to make me into a "Democrat". Don't worry, even the non-lawyers will understand my point.

So, four little words: GOD I LOVE ALASKA! P.S. 27 days to go.

So, just a quick note. J took some great pics of Kadee and the snow today. The pic of the snow is the view from our bedroom window. Kadee remains the happiest girl in the world and the light of my life. Funny how you can love someone so much it hurts. And for those that think Alaska is cold and dark all the time, you are wrong. The weather, so far, is great and I, for one, love it. To think that Kadee will grow up in it. She will learn so much and be a million times tougher than J and me put together. God I love her. GodI hope America doesn't become the place that I fear it is becoming. Next time I will write about SWAT gone bad. This country is going to hell. To think that one day my daughter might end up being "convicted" by a "special tribunal". Or being tortured for "information" by the Government. Held in a cell for years without rights. Having her calls monitored, her movements recorded and tracked and her conversations listened in on. What the…

So, Jeremy bought me a snowmachine for Christmas. It is an older machine (1984) but it has had some work done on it and should be good for a few more years. I thought it would make our upcoming winter more fun. We got our first snow last night and now have 6 months of it. I want to buy a sled to pull behind it to go ice fishing, get a christmas tree etc. I have no intentions of going on long trips but will keep it where, if it breaks down, I can walk home. Unfortunately, J will have none of it. Within seconds, she declared it was "dodgy" and refuses to ever get on it. I guess it will be something I do alone. As long as she doesn't complain when I go out to ride I guess it doesn't make much difference. But so much for family activities. In other news, my counter-offer on the house was accepted! Yay! I won't count my chickens until escrow closes in 29 days but it is good news nonetheless. Unfortunately I am not getting anything extra out of it but the $2500 a month…

So, a glorious day. Just a small example of the beauty we are surrounded with here. These pictures makes me sad. Alaska is so beautiful and these pictures do not do it justice. Some places are, indeed, better than others. What a day. The kind of day that makes you glad to be alive. And free. I hunted my whole way home. Enough said.

So, I went on my first Alaska hunting trip. Went for Spruce Grouse. We only got one bird but I got to cook it up. Damn good eating. It is more like red meat than chicken. Even though we didn't get a lot of meat it was still a good day. Saw other game and the weather was perfect at about 35 degrees. Also happened to see the log home that I want. Wow. Check out www.pioneerloghomesofbc.com J and I have decided that a log home is the only way to go. Once that damn house in CA sells we will have a lot more ability to start to plan our dream home. I'm not really sure we will ever get there on one salary but it is fun to dream. While dreaming, I would really like to have a log brew pub too. I learned yesterday that there is, after all, a new brew pub going in Soldotna. I am going to watch and learn. If it fails perhaps I will be in a position to swoop in and buy parts of for pennies on the dollar. If it succeeds, then I will start planning another one. A guy at work says that I shoul…

So, Happy Alaska day! To mark the day Becky gave birth to seven(!) puppies. For me, marking the day means writing why I am thankful to be in Alaska. I received an email today from someone who is going to make a blog called "God I miss California". So I started thinking. Is there anything I miss about California? The answer must be a resounding no. I know that I have written all this before but bear with me. On a "professional" level, Alaska is great. The judges in California were spineless cowards who committed treason every day. The job of a judge is not to vanquish the Bill of Rights based on the political whims of the day. Yet judges in California made me scream with anger every day. Judges are not perfect here either but at least they understand the 4th Amendment. They understand the right to privacy. The legislators are morons too but at least they are part time. There are few taxes. There is no goddamned gun control. The combination of less law with less yell…

So, just a quick note. More or less finished the fence around the house today. It is more like a pallisade than a fence. Should keep the dogs in and the moose etc out. Have heard that moose will jump a fence to eat the hay out of dog houses in the winter around here. Of course 2x4's won't keep out a determined moose. I still have NO DSL and am know I will go insane if I don't get it soon. I have been busy so far with the fence, brewing beer etc but winter is coming. We are also waiting for Becky to have her litter of pups. It will be hell when there are about 10 dogs in this house temporarily. I doubt these pups will be going out much to go potty when it is -10. Great. Back to work tomorrow. Going to try and deal with the moving expenses issue. Have decided not to get any more worked up about it. Will take what I can get and deal with it later. I have decided that I might even sell the house in California at a "loss" to get out of it. That is sell it for what I c…

So, I am back from my conference. Didn't learn a whole lot. But got to hang out with some cool people and do some drinking. Forgot to take camera up hill, but it is all the same anyways. Majestic beauty. Snow covered mountains. The works. Am still mad about the moving expenses thing...I guess Fish Taxi is right. I will take what I can and claim the rest off my taxes. Had to pay the first California mortgage today on top of my Alaska bills. Took a credit card advance to do it. I knew it would be rough. I will rent the house if it doesn't sell soon. I can't do this much longer. Otherwise all is good. Despite my concerns over the moving expenses, I am enjoying both my work and my workplace. I like Alaska so far. I even like our little house. I am looking forward to more financial security but in all honesty that is my only complaint right now. I am even looking forward to the cold. I realize that I am the only one, as J and Kadee are starting to prepare now.

So, I nearly quit my job on Friday. God, was I mad. Anyone who reads this blog knows how much we gave up to get to Alaska. Our Green Cards. I figure it cost about $25,000 to get here. My new boss guaranteed me $3000 in moving expenses. I figured a moving expense was a "but for" test. That is, but for the move would I have spent the money? So I submitted just over $3000 in expenses. But on Friday I get this call from this woman whose job it is to manage the Agency's money. Basically she insinuated that I was a liar and a thief for claiming $3000. Quinlan (the head honcho) then tells me that the state will only pay "certain expenses". If I had known that I would not have slept on the ground near piles of dog crap to save money. He also tells me that it is this woman's job to essentially call the lawyers in the Alaska Public Defender's Agency liars and thieves. That is bad enough in a normal situation. But to give up Green Cards. To give away almost everyt…
